This half term, i spent jus over the weekend in LDN and fucking loved it. SNM. But the joke is, i was up and down probli stopped at over 20 tube stations, but it never cross my mind to do 7 stops, danced to STOP! HAMMER TIME in the middle of Wood Green and recorded it but never think to even post it. Stopped and talked to more than 7 different people and made some new homies. Stopped at my girlies house with over 7 other people, but never take pics of them in their PJ's. Pluss....7 different people stopped at my house and left, a SONY erricsson phone, a pair of thick BLACK tights, some grey flats, a camera, a black bag, some gold eyeshadow ANDDDDD. some K and a half drunk bottle of Caribbean Twist, which Rochelle drank the next morning hahaha. and the funny thing is, i was given a task to travel 7 stops and record it on my blog and it never even cross my mind! Interview with Andrew..

After questioning wether there is oppurtunities in Birmingham i thought i'd interview someone who has moved to London from birmingham called Andrew. He studies graphic design at the university of arts london camberwell university and is currently in his second year. Once finishing uni, he wants to set up himself as an artist utilising art products as his outlet.

Who is your biggest influence?
There have been many but right now my biggest influences in terms of art or graphic design are Takashi Murakami for how he bridged the gap between high and low art, Nigo for Bape and how he brought daring colours to the fashion world, Jeff Soto for his dark yet playful illustration and KAWS for his cubism/colourful style paintings. For graphics, designers such as Dan Tobin Smith, 123Klan, Hello Monday, Phunk Studio, Jon Burgerman (Illustrator), Ashley Wood (Illustrator), Alex Trochut, Grotesk, Parra and websites such as Behance Network or 'It's Nice That'. Apart from that my life, my family and friends and a bottle of Supermalt.
Why did you move to london rather than staying in B'ham?
I moved to London because I managed to get into one of the best universities in England for graphic design, as well as that I wanted a challenge in the right city with the right opportunities which was London.

Do you think there are good oppourtunities for art nd design students in B'ham?
I think that Art and Design students in Birmingham have to search harder whilst in because the city is not driven by capital. When I lived in Birmingham I struggled to get my art out there because the was a lackluster of art outlets. My advice for anyone is to take up any opportunities that come their way.

Describe your personal style?
If you mean personal style in terms of art then, I like art with a message and a meaning/narrative. Aesthetically I like my art to be simplistic by incorporating simple shapes, geometry, primary colours this is usually my starting point.

What is your design ethos?
Design has to be simple, meaningful, intelligent and playful so much so that you question its outcome.

I Love my new nails =]

Location: My messy bedroom.

This photoshoot was done by myself and two friends, one of them who currently studies design styling and promotion at MDX. We had the idea of doing a photoshoot showing the preperation of getting ready to rave. Here is the result! =]

Are there opportunites for us in Birmz?

When i saw Osman Yousefzada's s/s 09 collection a couple of seasons ago, i automatically put him down as a designer that i didn't like. But after seeing his A/W 09 collection at style in the city, I've grown to like his style. He is originally from Birmingham but has now moved to London, after hearing that Luella has been hit by the recession it makes me wonder, if this is happening to a well known designer in London, are there really opportunities for young designers in Brum town who want to become successful designers or stylists? I personally think that London is the best place for me, but i suppose it depends on your own preferences, or maybe were just starting to build our reputation? Watcha think hmm.

Recession Hits Luella

Well known designer Luella bartley seems to have been hit by the recession! This seasons 50s inspired collection weren't really my cup of tea, but i loved her s/s 09 collection and generally like her work. Most of the stuff on her website are now on sale! Poor Thing =/

When in LDN.

Tilly Goes to LDN

I went to LDN this half term to visit some friends, and whilst i was there, I visited a couple of exhibitions, but what i really wanted to see was the exhibitions by Ed Ruscha, because from reading his interview in POP magazine i was intrigued to know more about his work, but unfortunately i didnt have time to go. =[

This half term I spent a few days in London and went to an exhibition called 'London Before London' which was about London before it was this iconic city. London was founded on the north bank of the Thames River, which was home to hunters etc. It was good for the information, but all they showcased was Flint. LOL. Could make a good colour scheme though..... Mark Edmonds-1999 'Our first world was the forest, but before the forest, there was ice. There was no colour and no time, no smoke and no tracks. The land was barren' I love this quote. It basically summed up the whole exhibition for me!

Location:Tate Modern.

When i went to the Tate gallery, there was a piece by picasso which i was particularly interested in called 'Three Dancers' The name itself was decieving as it was about the love trianlge between three of Picasso's friends which resulted in the suicide of his friend Carlos Casagemas. The hidden meaning made me intrigued to know more. It was kind of like hearing gossip. Nowadays we are a society that thrives on hearing the latest gossip about the Beckhams or which celebrity couple are getting a divorce. There is an article in this seasons POP that talks about websites like Twitter, that are basically feeding us gossip everytime someone tweets.

Ed Ruscha.

'Art has to be something that makes you scratch your head'

Ed Ruscha is an American pop artist, who recently created the front of the limited edition POP magazine for this autumn/winter. He likes to work with words and typography in his pieces. He currently has his work in two exhibitions, Hayward and Gagosian Gallery, London. An interview about his work is also featured in POP.

Whats on?

Street style + me

What is street style?

For me, someone who has street style doesnt neccesarily follow trends to the tee. They have their own quirky look, and dress how they feel. Everyone is inspired by what they see, their surroundings and their area subconciously, without realising. and i s'pose this is part of my design ethos init!
